4/9 My aunt and my mother escort Henry on a walk around my sister's farm in rural New York over Christmas. As with so many of his behaviors, the more you support him, the more he leans on you, until you both are in danger of falling over. It's a particular hazard for my mom, now 87, but after 56 years of caring for him, she finds it just as hard to let go as it is to hold on. I rescued her just after I shot this picture, and, lo and behold, he continued on just fine without her guiding arm. Striking that balance between maintaining his independence and keeping him calm and is a constant struggle.
Thanks for visiting my photo pages. I welcome your feedback, technical suggestions and (of course) encouragement. My goal is to learn and grow by shooting and posting every day.
