Light from above

Posted by
Charlotte Meryman (Williamsburg, MA, United States) on 12 January 2010 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Sunlight streams through the open balcony door of my parents' barn. This barn once stored hay, horses, and cattle. My father built the balcony as a retreat; throughout my childhood, he and my mother climbed the ladder nailed to the wall each summer evening, drinks in hand, to watch the sun set over the farm. Now the barn houses old furniture and boxes of documents from my father's scientific research lab.

Karine stated it perfectly. The thought of climbing that ladder with a drink and a honey made me smile. Sounds like your folks knew how to live.
